International Two-Day Festival Brings Avantgarde Pioneers To Helsinki

entry-image

Soundscapes & Soundportraits Festival 2018 features two concerts by a unique ensemble of six different nationalities at Balder Hall in downtown Helsinki.

The concerts combine visual art and live improvisations by saxophonist Evan Parker, violinist Phil Wachmann, drummer-percussionist Paul Lovens, bassist Teppo Hauta-aho and naturally saxophonist Harri Sjöström, who is the Primus Motor of the project. The ensemble is guest-starred by the hottest avantgardists resided in Helsinki and Berlin, including accordionist Veli Kujala, vibraphonist Emilio Gordo, pianist Libero Mureddu, drummer Dag Magnus Narvesen and trombonist Sebastiano Tramontana. Artist Lena Czerniawska draws the music live on the screen.

Harri Sjöström created the Soundscapes concept in 2013 as a pathway for avantgarde musicians to find international audiances and colleagues.
