Founded in 2016, Hietsu is Happening! returns from its summer break on Sunday, September 22nd, when the Grand Hall of Hietsu Pavilion will be filled with the dynamic and captivating duet of two top French cellists. The concerts of Vincent Courtois and Eric-Maria Couturier have delighted music lovers across genres. Hietsu is Happening! brings ambitious, high-quality music to audiences in a relaxed, accessible way.

Awarded the National Music Prize, Hietsu is Happening! is a diverse event series that takes place at Hietsu Pavilion (and sometimes nearby) in Helsinki's Hietaniemi. It fearlessly crosses the boundaries between various art forms. The series is curated by musicians Mikko Innanen, Petri Kumela, and Antti Lötjönen, who reside at Hietsu Pavilion. Artistically high-level and boldly innovative, HiH! has brought together artists from different fields over its five-year run, from Vesa Vierikko to Tuuli Lindeberg, Anni Elif Egecioglu to Tuomari Nurmio, and Han Bennink to Susana Santos Silva and Lydia Lunch. HiH! offers performers a platform for free experimentation and new possibilities. In curating the event, art genres, preconceptions, conventions guiding creation, and other boundaries are re-examined, with the aim of enabling uncompromising dialogue between artists and art forms, while also creating entirely new and unique works. Hietsu is Happening! received the National Music Prize in 2021.
