Finnish-Beninese group, Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble, began the summer season by spending a week in the city of Bari in Apulia, Italy. The group played live thrice during their stay at Bari in Jazz Festival. http://www.bariinjazz.it/
The first gig of the summer was also the most memorable for Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble. The locale was the C.A.R.A. accommodation centre for refugees and asylum seekers, situated in a military zone only a stone’s throw from Bari airport. Currently the camp hosts approximately 1 500 people despite the fact that its accommodation capacity is 300-400 people. At the upcoming weekend Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble is back on Finnish stages again; starting their tour at Kalott Jazz in Tornio on Sunday 29 June. Each weekend in July will be spent touring Finnish jazz, folk and city festivals, while on weekdays the group will keep on working on their second album, which is due to be released in November.
Toward the end of the summer Helsinki-Cotonou Ensemble will return to Italy and perform at Stockholm Folk Festival in Sweden and at GlobalCPH world music venue in Copenhagen.
