Heimojazz is back!

entry-image

Band exchange project Heimojazz (”Tribal Jazz”) by Finnish Jazz Federation and Estonian Jazz Union continues in May, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and its after-effects. As part of the exchange, Jazz Federation’s tour band Joonas Tuuri Quartet plays in Tallinn on the 20th of May, and the Estonian ensemble LUUM performs on Juttutupa’s Rytmihäiriö Club on Wednesday, May 31st.

Heimojazz is a music exchange project between Finnish Jazz Federation and Estonian Jazz Union. Heimojazz takes two Finnish bands per year to perform in Estonia, and the neighbour country returns the favour. The concerts in Helsinki are produced together with Freelancermuusikot ry at restaurant Juttutupa's Rytmihäiriö Club. Joonas Tuuri's Tallinn show is supported by the Finnish Institute in Estonia, with the TelepArt program – a very warm thank you!

Joonas Tuuri Quartet

Bassist Joonas Tuuri’s ensemble saw daylight in 2017, and ripened their first album until 2022, when Dimensions came out. Many of Dimensions’ melodic and catchy tracks made it into YouTube and Spotify playlists – November song even broke Million streamings on Spotify’s Coffee Table Jazz list.

LUUM

Cinematic quartet LUUM consists of Estonia’s younger generation  musicians, and released their debut Guide in 2022. The album features acoustic ambiances that flow seamlessly into electronic sounds, and Maurice Ravel meets Maris Maul’s meditative, cosmic mysticism.

Raimond Mägi – bass
Karl-Juhan Laanesaar – drums
Allan Järve – trumpet
