On May 14th, 2021 the Montreux Jazz Voice Competition award winner Elena Mîndru will release the first single Hay Moon of her upcoming album Hope under Eclipse Music. The virtuoso Polish violinist Adam Bałdych adds a special flavor and artistic value to the album with his exquisite playing as their special guest. The jazz quintet is completed by Finnish musicians Tuomas J. Turunen on piano, Oskari Siirtola on double bass and Anssi Tirkkonen on drums. The composition and arrangements are by pianist Tuomas J. Turunen and the lyrics were written by Elena Mîndru. The music has been recorded and mixed by Joonas Saikkonen and mastered by Jarno Alho. The digital single will be available on all major digital platforms.
For Elena Mindru the single release and the new album are a bold step musically towards a more experimental direction. The theme of the music goes hand in hand with the general message of the whole album, to bring hope for the future, even in the midst of a variety of threats, and how hope and coming together for a common cause can save our planet.
The digital release of Hay Moon is accompanied by a music video directed by Riikka Kampara, filmed by Antti Kujanpää and color processed by Napoleon Digital. The filming location is the beautiful surroundings of the Tuomarinkylä Mansion in Helsinki, Finland. The visuals in the music video represent an alarm signal about the future prospects of humanity in a changing ecological environment as well as the challenges brought on by globalization (migration, disappearing livelihoods, cybernetics and artificial intelligence). The music video will be released on multiple social media channels including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram TV, Vimeo.
Hope is Elena Mindru’s fourth record as a jazz singer and a bandleader. The whole album will be released on August 27th, 2021 and preceded by two single and music video releases on May 14th, 2021 (Hay Moon) and June 11th, 2021 (Run Away). The album features two original compositions by Adam Bałdych.
Part of the music of this album (including the title track Hope) has been conceived during the pandemic period as a way of escaping the times of hard restrictions. But also, as the title track suggest, there's hope that this all comes to an end eventually and that there is a better future for humanity. The lyrics paint dreamlike foreshadows of a future that looks threatening, but where people also come together to appreciate our unique living planet.
The albums new music is composed by Tuomas J. Turunen, Elena Mindru and Adam Bałdych. The lyrics are by Elena Mindru and the album was recorded live at Sibelius Academy’s Kallio Kuninkala studios in Järvenpää, Finland, between 2.-4.8.2020.
