Häiriöjatsit offers marginal stuff on 10 July

entry-image

Häiriöjatsit, an evening dedicated to marginal jazz, will be held at Ravintola Telakka for the fifth time on 10 July.

The driving force will be orchestrating the event from Ostrobothnia, but local colour is very much visible in the form of such co-organisers and players as Fly Rite Festival, Annamaija Music Company, Mental Alaska and Validi Sekmentti from Pori.

From the start, the event has aimed at complementing the programme with at least one international artist. Among the previous years’ the international guests are saxophonists Peter Brötzmann, Ken Vandermark and Alan Wilkinson. This year the slot has been reserved to Swedish bassist Patric Thorman.

Initially the festival came to being because the people behind Häiriöjatsit wanted to give an arena for a type of jazz that had been neglected by other festival organisers in their area. Anti-elitism is also among the key ideas of the event, which shows in the ticket price: the audience pays a tenner even if John Coltrane’s ghost would appear on the stage in person.
