Sointi Jazz Orchestra and the 20-member Helsinki Chamber Choir will embark on a three-concert tour this November. The Utopia concerts will feature world premieres from five composers. The concerts will take place on November 21 in Tampere, November 23 in Helsinki, and November 24 in Kuopio.

Known for their innovative approaches and intriguing concert programs, the Sointi Jazz Orchestra and the recent Grammy and Emma Award-winning Helsinki Chamber Choir are joining forces for the new Utopia performance.

“There wasn’t an existing repertoire that suited this type of ensemble, so we decided to commission the entire program. Both Sointi and the Helsinki Chamber Choir are known for performing contemporary music, so this choice felt natural for us,” explains Sointi Jazz Orchestra’s artistic director, Rasmus Soini.

The Utopia concert will feature new compositions from five Finnish composers of diverse backgrounds, each piece inspired by a shared theme of utopia. The program will include Crème Fraîche by Antti Auvinen, Commute by Markus Fagerudd, Kyrie Eleison by Anna-Mari Kähärä, Silmittömyys by Mikko Sarvanne, and Flustra by Selma Savolainen. The concerts will be conducted by Atso Almila.
