The internationally renowned instrumental band Gourmet has released its fifth album, New Habitat. Lead by saxophonist Mikko Innanen and guitarist Esa Onttonen, the sextet's new release features as its guest artist opera singer Mari Palo.
Founded in 1997, Gourmet's distinctive sound is based on Mikko Innanen and Esa Onttonen's soulful compositions, jazz-based improvisation and the personal playing styles of the sextet members. In addition to Innanen and Onttonen, the band includes trumpet player Ilmari Pohjola, accordionist Veli Kujala, tuba player Petri Keskitalo and drummer Mika Kallio. In addition to Mari Palo, the new album will feature Sami Kontola, a master of Brazilian rhythms, as a guest.
Gourmet's previous album, En garde (2018), was a review success and received full five stars from Helsingin Sanomat and Keskisuomalainen, among others.
