Flame Jazz's autumn season brims with top-notch Finnish and international jazz.
This autumn will see five different venues hosting 22 different groups all over Turku city. With as many as five album-launching shows taking place within the walls of Åbo Svenska Teater, Jazz Club Monk and Turun Seudun Musiikkiopisto, Flame Jazz acts also as an arena for music fresh from the oven.
Some of the highlights include a new dance piece, "Pohjola - Nordic Roots", which fuses jazz and modern dance. A co-production with Niina Airaksinen Dance Productions, the piece will be staged twice at Åbo Svenska Teater in November. This year, Flame Jazz will also invade Logomo with a concert entitled Nordic Vocal Night. The concert, dedicated to vocal jazz, features two Scandinavian ladies of jazz: Turku Jazz Orchestra and vocalist Aili Ikonen interpret Ella Fitzgerald's repertoire and Lina Nyberg, one of Sweden's most acclaimed jazz singers, will take the stage in the same concert with her own group.
This flame does not recoil from water – far from it. The fifth Flame Jazz Cruise will take place on 27 September on Viking Grace with six leading Finnish groups aboard. In addition to the headliner, soul star Tuomo, the ship will rock to the swing of Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa, HERD & Jukka Perko, Felix Zenger, Aura Flow, Kadi Quartet and Wonder Girls & Henri Mäntylä.
