Flame Jazz reinvades the Viking Line flagship Viking Grace for the sixth time at the end of the month. The popular cruise will see some of the most topical talents of jazz and pop swing on the waves of the Baltic Sea.
The stars of the first edition of 2015 include the immensely popular rap artist Redrama, Teddy's West Coasters, captained by drummer Teppo Mäkynen, jazz-funk powerball Nassaun Fasaani and the Flame Jazz Artist of the Year, Verneri Pohjola, who will give a solo performance on the return journey.
This time the boat will rock to international rhythms, too, as Italian group Mauro Negri Buds Quartet and Romanian singer Elena Mindru's band Elena & The Rom Ensemble complement the programme. The latter won the Young Nordic Jazz Comets Finnish semi-finals in 2014, representing Finland in the inter-Scandinavian competition.
The Turku native and unarguably one of the most pumped-up double bassists of the country, DJ Åkerblom, is in charge of the DJ decks, entertaining the audience with some suitably muscular grooves. Topped with jam sessions and talk shows with the artists, this boat is quite ready to weigh the anchor.
