Jazz & Etno Finland LIVE is a pilot project that was launched in 2016 to create and test a support model for sustainable funding for concert production in Finland. At the moment only jazz and world music businesses are eligible to apply, but in the future the genre borders will open to comprehend all professional event producers.
Concert organizers and club promotors may now apply for a grant to support live jazz or world/folk music concert or club series that feature live music at least once a month within the upcoming seven months in 2018. The applicants are required to have some funding coming from their city or municipality of residence, and the applied amount may only double the governmental funding. The concert series must feature only professional artists and their fees should exceed the minimum of 200 euros per musician. The concerts that are produced or co-produced by Jazz Finland or the Finnish Folk Music Association are excluded from the support program.
The first and the second criteria for the grant are professionality and sustainability of the production, and the artistic quality. The third significant criterium is how the ethos of equity and diversity is implemented into the production.
All kinds of professional event organizers are eligible to apply by March 9. 2018, by a free-form email application, containing the following information:
• applicant’s name and full contact detail
• the applied amount
• description of the concert series: how many concerts in 2018, what kind of artists are performing, in what kind of venues?
• estimation of employment: how many paid, individual work days will there be within the concerts (musicians, sound engineers, production staff etc.)
• budget including the travel and accommodation expenses of the artists
• funding plan, including the ticket income, sponsorships, and the governmental (city or municipality) funding in euros.
