Erik Lindström grant to Adele Sauros

The board of Music Archive Finland has decided to award a 1500 euro grant from the Erik Lindström Fund to Adele Sauros for a study trip to the United States. Sauros, who plays soprano and tenor saxophone and flute, actively composes jazz music for various ensembles. Sauros' bands include Adele Sauros Quartet, Adele Sauros London Quartet, Katu Kaiku, JAF Trio and Superposition.

Adele Sauros has performed at major Finnish jazz festivals as well as internationally i.a. in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany and the Nordic and Baltic region. Sauros has composed music for her own records It’s Who I Am (2014) and My Spontaneous Mind (2016), as well as for Katu Kaiku’s records Tokyo/Kuopio (2016) and Luna (2019). She is also featured on the 2020 debut albums of Superposition and JAF Trio.

Sauros will graduate from Sibelius Academy with a Master's Degree in music in 2020. She has previously studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London (2018–2019) and at the Metropolia's Pop/Jazz department (Bachelor of Music in 2016).

The grant was presented to Adele Sauros on September 8th, 2020 at the jaZZanti concert in Helsingin Laulumiehet restaurant, where Verneri Pohjola and Mika Kallio performed.

Music Archive Finland collects, preserves and offers material and information related to Finnish music. Music Archive Finland contains more than 1,1 kilometers of shelves, and they cover a significant part of Finland's musical and cultural heritage. The material is based on donations from musicians as well as researchers and enthusiasts, and includes recordings, videos, photographs, interviews, sheet music, manuscripts, music magazines, music books, contracts and correspondence. There is a wealth of unpublished, unique material among the donations.

The purpose of the Erik Lindström Fund is to support the studies of young Finnish jazz musicians primarily in the United States. The capital of the Lindström Fund, which operates in connection with Music Archive Finland, has been donated by the Finnish Jazz Legend No. 1, composer and musician Erik Lindström (1922–2015).
