Elena Mîndru-Turunen has been selected as the new director of Oulu Music Festival Foundation. Turunen will take up her new position on January 1st, 2021. The next Oulu Music Festival will be held on March 14th-28th, 2021, and the foundation will produce Jazz & Etno concerts and individual music events throughout the year.
Elena Mîndru-Turunen currently works as a cultural producer at the Savoy Theater in Helsinki. She has a master's degree in music from the Nordic Master of Jazz program between Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Turunen is preparing her doctorate for the jazz department of Sibelius Academy of UniArts Helsinki. Mîndru-Turunen is an award-winning jazz singer (i.a. Montreux Jazz Voice Competition 2012) and has made several recordings.
There were 13 applicants for the position of director.
