Eero Koivistoinen Quartet & Nina Mya on Joint Production Tour in October and November

entry-image

Renowned saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen and vocalist Nina Mya are set to embark on a joint production tour with the Finnish Jazz Federation and Sublime Music Agency in October and November. The tour will visit Jyväskylä, Petäjävesi, Porvoo, Hyvinkää, and Riihimäki, with a repertoire featuring compositions by both Koivistoinen and Mya, blending traditional jazz with touches of soul and African influences.

In this new concert, Nina Mya and Eero Koivistoinen present brand-new material alongside Koivistoinen’s instrumental classics, now with English lyrics by Mya. The program also includes beloved Koivistoinen vocal classics like Mieleni Meri, originally penned by Juha Vainio, now reimagined with a fresh English narrative by Mya. Additionally, the concert will showcase Mya’s own compositions.

The musical style is rooted in classic jazz, infused with soul elements and African rhythms. Founded in 2012, the Eero Koivistoinen Quartet has toured extensively and released three albums with Svart Records: Hati Hati (2012), Illusion (2017), and Diversity (2022).

In December 2024, Yle will record the ensemble’s music, giving audiences on this fall tour an exclusive chance to enjoy unreleased material. This cross-generational collaboration combines nostalgia with fresh perspectives from the top of Finnish jazz. The lyrics offer reflections on humanity, covering themes from everyday relationships to broader social issues.
