This month, the Tampere-based concert series Eclipse Music Club focusses on prog rock and modern big band jazz. Also, Tapio Ylinen, the host of the club and the manager of the record label Eclipse Jazz, will take to the stage.
20 May is dedicated to progressive rock at Tampere’s Student Theatre as trio Sound The Bell! celebrate their debut release. The group is composed of the Black Motor drummer Simo Laihonen, guitarist Antero Mentu, bassist-vocalist Panu Ukkonen and, a special reinforcement, keyboardist Anssi Solismaa. Eclipse Music issues their debut on 26 May, which proves that the outfit is walking in the footsteps of such Finnish greats as Tasavallan Presidentti and Kingston Wall with sure steps. The cherry on the cake will be keyboard wizard Esa Kotilainen, known for both his solo albums and membership in the legendary Finnish prog group Wigwam. Kotilainen will be playing his ethereal solo material and, to top it off, we will also see him join the guys of Sound The Bell! on stage.
The grand finale of the spring takes place on the Holy Thursday on 25 May when the Sointi Jazz Orchestra hops on the stage. The big band has toured Finland in April and May supported by the Finnish Jazz Federation, performing in seven different Finnish cities. To date, Sointi is the biggest orchestra ever to become selected for a Finnish Jazz Federation co-produced tour. At Eclipse Jazz Club, they will be playing music from the acclaimed 2016 debut, Syntymä.
The stage will be warmed up by the host Tapio Ylinen himself. He will be playing new solo arrangements of songs from his two releases Nuoruus, issued in autumn 2012, and EP Eläimistä ja kuolemasta, which he brought out in November 2016.
