David Chevallier's Summer Concerts June 15-18, 2024

The versatile French guitarist David Chevallier's expressive range stretches from jazz to folk, passing through baroque. On his solo tour in mid-June, this guitar virtuoso will perform on June 15 in Helsinki, June 16 in Loviisa, June 17 in Pori, and June 18 in Rajamäki. At the Loviisa gig, Chevallier will also perform as a duo with trumpeter Tomi Nikku. Before his performances in Finland, the guitarist will play in Tallinn on June 13 in a concert featuring the Estonian singer Anett Tamm.

David Chevallier's music became familiar to Finnish audiences in August 2021, when his long-standing trio with bassist Sébastien Boisseau and drummer Christophe Lavergne performed across the country. This summer marks the first time the guitarist will be heard solo in Finland. The concert, titled “Au Coeur du Sujet” – "At the Heart of the Matter" – features a program of his own compositions, allowing space for free expression and expanding the acoustic guitar sound with electronics.

Chevallier's summer visit also serves as a prelude to his November-December 2024 tour, where his trio will perform the new Borders program with Estonian singer Anett Tamm. There will be eight Borders concerts in Finland from November 21-29.

David Chevallier is one of those musicians who embrace change and do not hesitate to step out of their comfort zone to explore new horizons. The son of a musical family, he first studied classical guitar before becoming enthusiastic about composition, improvisation, and jazz. He began his professional music career in the early 1990s and has long been a collaborator with renowned artists in the French jazz scene, such as Laurent Dehors and Patrice Caratini. He founded his own artist group, Le SonArt, to explore the possibilities of different musical universes meeting. For example, in the "Emotional Landscapes" project, he leads a baroque ensemble interpreting Björk's music on historical instruments such as the theorbo and baroque guitar, of which he is an excellent performer. In 2013, he established a trio with Sébastien Boisseau and Christophe Lavergne, whose communication has developed almost telepathically. This trio plays a central role in Chevallier's creative work.
