Piano trio Dark Horse will celebrate their fresh album with We Jazz by performing in Helsinki on December 3rd. We Jazz Records releases the Swedish band's Listen album both on vinyl and digitally.
Gothenburg-based Dark Horse's new album Listen sees the light of day today. We Jazz Records releases the record both on vinyl and digitally. The Swedish trio, formed by pianist John Holmström, bassist Alfred Lorinus and drummer Mårten Magnefors, recorded their recent release in a cottage owned by the Holmström family on the Norwegian coast. The immediate and calm atmosphere is part of the album's natural sound, which slowly shapes into a holistic composition as the music moves forward.
Listen is the third We Jazz publication in a row to feature the work of visual artist Maija Lassila. This time, Lassila's 2016 painting Overwhelming Structure can be seen on the album cover. Dark Horse's new album has been mixed and mastered by Jonas Kullhammar, a Swedish saxophonist known from the band Koma Saxo.
The band's record release concert is scheduled to take place in Helsinki on December 3rd at Kulttuuritehdas Korjaamo as part of We Jazz Festival.
"Strange, mysterious, and wonderfully abstract without any wankerish soloing. These players communicate on such an intimate level, they speak as a unit rather than as contributing individuals."
– Thom Jurek, AllMusic
"Excellent. Loving all of this."
– Chris Philips / Jazz FM
"I think the surroundings of where the album was recorded can be heard through the compositions. Deep, emotive. Lovely."
– Mickey Duke, 1BTN
"Each time I'm introduced to a new artist or band through We Jazz I'm always left impressed, and to hear that this album was recorded in a cabin by the ocean is amazing."
– Kerem Gokmen, Dubmission
