The seven episodes of the second season were filmed during the soundchecks at Helsinki We Jazz festival in December 2017. The first episode released today presents the band Black Motor. The new episodes were directed and shot by Petri Luukkainen.
Helsinki-based festival, record label and creative collective produces sequel to its popular Live at We Jazz video series. The first season, released in 2013, shows bands playing at the We Jazz office. Now seven top-notch jazz ensembles were recorded while doing soundchecks for We Jazz Festival in Helsinki last December. The second season features Black Motor, 3TM, Mopo, Jaska Lukkarinen Trio, Olli Ahvenlahti New Quartet, Timo Lassy & Teppo Mäkynen and JAF Trio, which were acknowledged with the title We Jazz Rising Star. The episodes are released one at a time, the first one starring Black Motor, whose performance was recorded at Kahvila Sävy. The series was directed and shot by Petri Luukkainen, who is known for his Tavarataivas documentary project.
We Jazz X Lonna starts off on Wednesday
In addition to December’s festival, We Jazz is active in the summer too. The popular We Jazz events on the Lonna island begin next Wednesday with OK:KO, which is preparing a new album on the We Jazz label. Each concert of the jazz evening series includes a performance from one of the Finnish top ensembles releasing under We Jazz’s label and the record choices from the We Jazz’s DJ collective. There are no age limit or admission fee and the ferry to Lonna departures from Kauppatori.
