The concert year 2024 for the Turku Jazz Orchestra kicks off on Saturday, February 10th, at Logomo, led by the recent winner of the Nordic Composer Contest.

On Saturday at the Logi Hall, audiences will be treated to big band music drawing from the worlds of fusion jazz and progressive pop, as well as excerpts from the upcoming album of Bianca Rantala. The concert's soloist will be the Estonian virtuoso Valter Soosalu, who will both sing and play the unique harpejii instrument.

Bianca Rantala is a Estonian-Finnish composer, arranger, and conductor from the younger generation. She leads several jazz orchestras in Estonia and has worked as an arranger for various ensembles from small groups to symphony orchestras. Rantala, who has been awarded multiple times as both a composer and singer, has recorded and performed with some of Finland's top musicians and has also founded her own string orchestra and big band.

Valter Soosalu is a multi-instrumentalist, conductor, singer, and actor, who collaborates daily with various orchestras and choirs. Soosalu's band, Põhjakonn, is known for its collaboration with the Finnish band Saimaa.

The harpejii is an electronic string instrument created by Tim Meeks in 2007, which resembles a hybrid of piano and guitar in both sound and technique.
