Berghäll Triality brings the question of climate on stage on their tour of five concerts on 21th to 26th May. The programme of the tour consists of composition series The Arctic, that was released as an album in June 2018. In addition to that, at Kerava Jazz Festival Berghäll Triality presents the premiere of to-be-released series The Antarctic. The tour is a sequel to the album release tour that started last autumn.
The life at the arctic area is at the core of the four-piece series The Arctic. It is an ode to the humanity heading to climate destruction. Even though the threat might feel distant, the climate forecasts are already reality at the arctic area. During the last 30 years 75% of the polar ice has melted. The band wants to remind that now is the time to take action. Berghäll Triality pursued climate neutrality in the album recording process and the carbon footprint was compensated, from printing to cargo. Also the tour is executed with neutral climate impact.
The northern nature is often present at the compositions of Joakim Berghäll. The Arctic series tells a deeply moving story of ever-changing life in the Arctic area. The band combines freely flowing and melodic improvisation to compositions inspired by chamber music. The free dialogue (or trialogue to be precise) between sax, bass clarinet, guitars, moog and prepared piano at the hands of three masters of their instruments draws intricate soundscapes of the northern wilderness and the rumble of the arctic seas.
The exotic instrumentation is special in itself, but the album has already been praised by critics before its official release. There's no rhythm section, so what's left is a free flowing tapestry of intense sounds. Berghäll Triality consists of three internationally acclaimed musicians: composer-saxophonist Joakim Berghäll, guitarist Kalle Kalima and pianist Kari Ikonen.
