The concert at the club Kuudes linja on May 17th brings together Muovibabylon’s mix of striking spoken word, jazz and experimental music and the visual feature of Emma Ainala for the Muovibabylon album. The live concept of Muovibabylon is based on the album of the same name by soloist and poet Beibi P and Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company, which consist of young talents of Finnish jazz.
Mikko Sarvanne Hip Company, a sextet led by Mikko Sarvanne, poet Beibi P and artist Emma Ainala take the stage at Kuudes linja, Helsinki on the 17th of May.
Formed in 2015 the project Muovibabylon combines spoken word, jazz and experimental music and has reached its multidisciplinary climax as Ainala joined the collective. Premiering live piece continues the series which the album Muovibabylon set off with the bold, comprehensive artwork the collective carried out on We Jazz festival in December 2016.
Spoken word artist Beibi P and the jazz sextet plumb straight to our time and feelings. At Kuudes linja artist Emma Ainala clothe Muovibabylon’s text to visual world. Visual art, music and speech discuss together and serve the same purpose of storytelling.
Mikko Sarvanne (b. 1992) is Helsinki-based jazz composer, conductor and guitarist. He is known as a conductor of Hip Company, which has released two albums. The group has performed festivals such as We Jazz, Helsinki Design Week, Viapori Jazz and Turku Jazz. Recently Sarvanne was figured as one of the composers of the successful Sibafest concert Future of Jazz. Sarvanne studies jazz composition at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki.
Emma Ainala (b. 1989) is Savonlinna-based visual artist, who is one of the essential Finnish modern artists of the distinguished Helsinki Contemporary Gallery. Her works are included in art museum collections in Mikkeli and Oulu and so far Ainala’s exhibitions have been featured at Helsinki Contemporary Gallery, Galleria Huuto and Mikkeli art museum.
Beibi P alias Jussi Pelkonen (b. 1992) is a big baby of Finnish spoken word. Known also as the soloist of garage rock duo Ursus Factory, the songwriter jumped straight to the whirlwind of poetry music with the big band collaboration album Muovibabylon. Now Muovibabylon has merged into an ensemble of its own style which avoids definitions (jazz, spoken word, rock, stand up) but does not remain vague. Poems reach to something of everyday life, something familiar, something scary and something everlasting.
