The 35th April Jazz Festival will move from April to autumn and the event will be held exceptionally at the end of October 27-31 October 2021. There are plans to build a so-called hybrid festival with both live concerts and streamed content. The entire Espoo Cultural Center has been reserved for live events, and lessons have been learned from streaming about the excellent April Jazz Subgrooves festival last year.
”At the moment, it seems that later in the autumn we can already organize a decent live festival. Of course, even then with some special arrangements. And yes, both the performers and the audience are starting to have a big longing to experience music live physically and collectively”, says Matti Lappalainen, the festival director of April Jazz.
April Jazz's main arena will be the Espoo Cultural Center, but performances will also be held in more unusual halls. In addition to live concerts, the atmosphere of the performances is to be conveyed to as many jazz diggers as possible. Some of the concerts and also certain special content will be streamed online.
The performers will be announced in more detail later in the spring.
April Jazz is one of the largest jazz festivals in Finland and has been held in Espoo since April 1987. Exceptionally, in 2020, April Jazz was held only via stream and in 2021 in October.
