Oulu Music Festival hosts popular masterclasses for music students in March 2016. Masterclasses will be organised in violin, cello, chamber music, pop/jazz music and for vocal ensembles. The deadline for application is 15 January 2016
The 26th Oulu Music Festival, taking place in March 2016, offers music students once again the opportunity to enrol on popular masterclasses. Classes will be organised in violin, cello, chamber music and pop/jazz music and for vocal ensembles. All teaching takes place in week 11 and both active and passive participants are welcome. The course fee for active students includes a festival pass which admits to all concerts free of charge; passive students are given tickets to three festival concerts of their choice. Teaching in pop/jazz music takes place primarily in groups. As teachers, Oulu Music Festival has recruited two big names of Finnish jazz: drummer Teppo Mäkynen and guitarist-composer Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen. Often dubbed as Finland’s number one jazz drummer, Teppo Mäkynen is a multi-award-winning drummer-composer-producer, known especially for his masterful touch on the ride and unerring sense of swing. Mäkynen is a strong presence in such Finnish top groups as Five Corners Quintet, Timo Lassy Band, Teddy’s West Coasters and Jo Stance. Composer-arranger and multitalented artist Valtteri Laurell Pöyhönen is the leader of the sextet Dalindèo whose cinematic soundscapes and compelling swing has proved an irresistible recipe with both critics and audiences. In recent years, Pöyhönen has done convincing job also as the composer and arranger of the supergroup Ricky-Tick Big Band & Julkinen Sana.
The masterclass in cello and chamber music is taught by cellist Marko Ylönen, while that in violin will be instructed by American violinist Miriam Fried. The masterclass for voice is aimed at already existing vocal ensembles and taught by one of Finland's best vocal groups, Rajaton.

Oulu Music Festival is organised on 11 - 24 March 2016. The programme will be released in its entirety in January. Also, tickets will be available for purchase in January.
