Flame Jazz will organise an additional Nordic Vocal Night concert on 20 December due to high demand. The concert will see Turku Jazz Orchestra feature the sovereign Finnish vocal acrobat Aili Ikonen. The first concert, almost sold out by now, will take place on 19 December.
The Nordic Vocal Night delves into the repertoire of one of jazz history’s most famous voices, Ella Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald appeared on a number of recordings as a soloist for a big band, and now, for the first time in Finland, a number of hand-picked pearls from these recordings will be performed live by Aili Ikonen and Turku Jazz Orchestra. Aili Ikonen is known as a skilled interpreter of Fitzgerald from her earlier project, Aili Ikonen & Tribute to Ella, which has enjoyed tremendous success and drawn full houses all over Finland.
The night is opened by another Scandinavian stellar vocalist, Lina Nyberg. Nyberg has recently released a new recording, The Sirenades, and the album-launching tour brings this internationally renowned vocalist now to Turku. Nyberg is currently a nominee in P2 Jazzkatten, the biggest jazz award in Sweden, in the category of Best Composer.
The concerts will take place at Logomo in hall Logi 3 on Friday 19 December and Saturday 20 December at 7:00PM, and they are co-organised by Flame Jazz and Turku Jazz Orchestra. Tickets are now available for purchase at Lippupiste.
