The OMJ Jazz & Etno concert series for the autumn season of 2026 invites you on a journey where northern folk musician traditions, modern European jazz, distinctive guitar artistry, improvisation, folk song and age-old musical traditions meet. The autumn’s ten concerts feature top international musicians, leading names in Finnish jazz, artists of the new generation, as well as unique concert concepts in Oulu’s distinctive concert venues.

The Sounding Treasure Trove of the North brings 18th–19th-century Ostrobothnian peasant melodies and dance tunes to life in new arrangements. Folk music professionals, young traditional musicians and the Orivesi All Stars from the Oulu region lead the audience on a journey through time into the area’s rich musical heritage.

Orchestra Nazionale della Luna brings an award-winning European jazz ensemble to Oulu. Led by Manuel Hermia and Kari Ikonen, the ensemble is known for its inventive musical language, strong improvisation and versatile instrumentation.

Senni Heiskanen & Rauno Nieminen take listeners to the oldest layers of the Finnish kantele tradition. A rare five-string brass kantele, centuries-old melodies and improvisation create a unique concert experience.

Julien Tassin & Heikki Ruokangas combine the delicate interplay of two guitars, melodicism, free improvisation and experimental expression. The Belgian-Finnish duo has gained international recognition for its distinctive sound world.

Solo Piano Dialogues – Kirke Karja & Tuomo Uusitalo brings two distinctive pianists to the stage during the same evening. The solo performances feature original compositions, jazz and improvisation created in the moment.

Teemu Viinikainen offers an intimate solo concert in which one of Finland’s most highly regarded jazz guitarists takes listeners into the realm of sensitive expression, nuanced tone and improvisation.

Claude Tchamitchian – In Spirit + Poetic Power Trio offers a two-part concert evening featuring both the moving solo work In Spirit and the energetic Poetic Power trio. The evening brings together free improvisation, strong compositional thinking and poetic expression.

Emmi Kuittinen guides the audience into the singing traditions of Karelia and Ingria and into the world of lament songs. The concert following the lecture brings this age-old tradition to life through the interpretation of one of Finland’s most highly regarded folk singers.

New3 represents the young generation of jazz. The trio of three top musicians combines original compositions, improvisation and uninhibited interplay into a fresh and surprising concert experience.

Jazz singer Riikka Keränen brings the Christmas spirit to Oulu, the hometown of her childhood, with swinging jazz touches. With her quartet, Keränen performs favorites among both traditional Finnish and American Christmas songs in fresh arrangements.
