On the new album Aki Rissanen Trio draws from classical music and the aesthetics of electronic dance music. The album is released by distinguished British label Edition Records.
Aki Rissanen, who has consolidated his position in the front row of European jazz field, is releasing a new trio-album, Art In Motion on 13 September. This is the third studio album for the trio, which is actively touring around the world. The album is released by the British label Edition Records, which has emerged as one of the most prominent jazz record labels in the industry. Cantus Arcticus, Melancholy, the second single from the album, is released on Friday 30 August.
The musical inspiration for Art In Motion may at first seem remote or even opposite. The album features interpretations of renaissance composer Carlo Gesualdo’s and Finnish modernist Einojuhani Rautavaara’s works. Pianist Aki Rissanen’s own compositions gives echoes from composers such as Satie, Pergolesi, Bach, Ligeti and Stravinsky. In addition to western art music the rhythmically intensive ensemble draws inspiration strongly from the aesthetics of electronic dance music.
The trio is celebrating the new album with an international album release tour starting in the autumn 2019 and continuing long till 2020.
