The facilities of Jazz City Turku ry, located in Forum Kortteli, are expanding in September as the association opens a music club for children and young people. The new Flame Jazz Club will regularly host jam sessions, workshops, and other events for young people and children.

Jazz City Turku ry is investing in the next generation of jazz musicians by opening a jazz club specifically for young people and children in the heart of Turku. During the fall, young musicians will have the chance to play every Thursday evening from 5 to 7 PM at jam sessions hosted by Veikka Kajamies, who has been recognized with the Turku Jazz Festival Youth Award. The club will also regularly feature workshops led by top Finnish musicians. The Turku Conservatory and Puolalanmäki High School are also joining in the collaboration. The events at the club are open to all young people, and no previous music experience is required. Attendees can even just come to listen to music and relax in beanbag chairs.

"Flame Jazz Club offers a safe and supportive environment for young people to explore jazz music, both as listeners and players. The goal is to create a low-barrier space where all young people can be exposed to jazz and be inspired by music. The spark for jazz doesn’t always ignite in traditional music schools or universities, but often through spontaneous enthusiasm and a supportive community. The aim of the new club is to inspire young people to participate in the fascinating world of jazz, both on stage and in the audience," says Jussi Fredriksson, Jazz City Turku ry's director and a jazz musician.

The space in Forum Kortteli will have a unique, creativity-fostering atmosphere, thanks to a mural by graffiti artist eazy-o and interior elements made from old banners from jazz festivals. Naturally, the club will always have high-quality instruments ready, including a grand piano, drums, amplifiers, and vocal microphones.

The grand opening of the Flame Jazz Club and the adjacent jazz office will be held on Friday, September 20, with live music, surprises, and coffee and buns. The doors open at noon, with a press event at 3 PM, followed by the first improvisation workshop for young players at 5 PM, hosted by trumpeter Mikko Gunu Karjalainen. The jazz spaces can be best accessed by entering Forum Kortteli from the Linnankatu side.

The jazz office will have new fall hours, open Wednesday to Friday from 12 PM to 4 PM. Visitors can stop by to buy records or just chat about jazz and upcoming concerts.
