The first Cultural Gala will be held in November 2021 in Tampere. In line with its strategy, Yle aims to create new partnerships that benefit society at large.
Together with its partners, Yle will establish a Cultural Gala, which will celebrate cultural actors and actions across genre boundaries. The Cultural Gala will be televised live on Yle TV1 on Thursday, November 25th, 2021.
The Cultural Gala will reward Finnish culture extensively and offer wonderful performances. The gala takes into account the entire field of culture and art. The purpose is to reward deeds, works, and creators alike. More detailed award categories will be revealed later, but the celebration of culture will culminate in the announcement of the winner of the Cultural Action of the Year award voted by the public.
In 2021, the Cultural Gala will be held at Tampere Mediapolis, to which about 300 guests will be invited. The following year, the Cultural Gala will move to the larger Uros Live Arena, which can accommodate a larger audience.
The organization of the gala is administered by the registered Cultural Gala Association. In addition to Yle, the rights holders of the gala include KULTA ry, the central organization for culture and the arts, and Life Style Invest Oy. The City of Tampere and Veikkaus also act as partners. Design Museum in Helsinki, Serlachius Museums and the Finnish Museums Association have already also joined the venture.
