Sointi Jazz Orchestra's Star Boys on tour

Sointi Jazz Orchestra released their Tiernapojat (Star Boys)  Christmas album that is a new take on the traditional Nordic play. In early December the big band takes the touring play on tour.

TUJA is an acronym for Tudengijazz. Tudengijazz (Student jazz) is one of the oldest and most unique international festivals in Estonia. It was established in 1982. Tudengijazz is dedicated to jazz music students and their fresh ideas. The festival brings together young musicians from all over Estonia and other European countries to play and share their music. Since 2011 Tudengijazz is organised by the Estonian Jazz Union. Last Edition of Tuokio Club series boasts a host of stars

Club series Tuokio, organised by the Study Centre Sivis since 2000, has come to its end. The last edition of the club series will take place on 21 November, seeing a great number of artists from over the years take to the stage at Tenho Restobar, Helsinki.


Hobby Horse canters to Turku's Bar Ö on 17 November

Italo-American trio Hobby Horse gives a show at Bar Ö on Friday 17 November as a part of the Flame Jazz concert series. Be prepared for an interesting and original concoction of acoustic and electronic elements. 


Local colour amply represented at Kaamosjazz

As has been the tradition, Sami tradition meets jazz at Kaamosjazz Festival in Saariselkä. This year’s festival stars the popular names of Sami music, Ulla Pirttijärvi-Länsman & Ulda and Niillas Holmberg with Roope Mäenpää. Sami music can be enjoyed in nine concerts altogether. 


Flame Jazz and We Jazz into the Nordic puls Program

puls is The Nordic Culture Fund's three-year music initiative for the period 2017–19, which will act as a springboard for the creation of a Nordic music network. It will also seek to bring musical experiences of high artistic quality to a wider Nordic public. Altogether 46 companies and projects were selected in the program. Jazz is represented in Finland by the Turku-based event production association Flame Jazz and Helsinki-based festival and promotion company We Jazz. 

 


Aki Rissanen Trio issues new album in November

British record label Edition Records releases the celebrated trio’s sophomore on 10 November. The group will play their new material live at London’s legendary jazz club PizzaExpress and Helsinki’s Koko Jazz Club, among other venues.


Turku Jazz Festival moves back to March

Turku Jazz Festival, the second oldest Finnish jazz festival will be moved back to March after four years of taking place in August. The new main venue will be cultural centre Logomo’s newly renovated theatre hall, Teatro. In 2018, the festival will host vibraphonist Severi Pyysalo’s 50th anniversary.
