10-year-old Porvoo Jazz Festival celebrates this weekend

This weekend 23.–25.9. it's finally time to celebrate Porvoo Jazz Festival's tenth anniversary. In honor of the celebration, ​​the festival will be bigger than ever before. The festival will include wonderful concerts and the food event MAT X JAZZ!

This year, Porvoo Jazz Festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary. In honor of the anniversary a wider set of jazz concerts is organized during the festival on September 23–25. The concert venues are Porvoo Jazz’s own cultural space Vanha 123, Porvoon Taidetehdas, RUNO Hotel Porvoo, and as a new addition, the rough, beautiful and atmospheric old locomotive stables of Porvoo's Old Railway Station.

The festival starts on Friday 23 September at Porvoo's Old Railway Station, where Nuijamiehet, will perform in a surprise comeback. Vanha 123 features singer Riikka Keränen's latest project, as well as the impressive trio Kikoski-Mäensivu-Peri, where the Grammy-winning David Kikoski plays the piano. The evening will be closed by one of Finland's most significant musical influencers, Olli Ahvenlahti with his legendary project The Poet.

Saturday starts briskly with a jazz tour hosted by Olli Ahvenlahti, where Olli and other artists color the jazz walk with their stories and performances about the history of jazz and their own experiences as musicians. In the afternoon, one of the hottest jazz names of the moment will take the stage at the festival's official gala concert: Linda Fredriksson Juniper. The concert is offered at the birthday price of €10 in honor of the anniversary.

The evening continues at Vanha 123, where the Ostrobothnia Jazz Sextet and Reimagining The John's Sons, assembled in honor of the late Jarmo Savolainen, will perform. The headliner of the festival, pianist-singer Laila Biali, who has won numerous awards, will perform a late night concert at the Old Railway Station.

Sunday starts deliciously with the RUNO hotel's jazz brunch, from where the audience can continue to a free concert aimed at the whole family, tailored for the anniversary festival: ZikiZiki. The festival ends in Taidetehdas’ Avanti hall. Porvoo Jazz Festival and Porvoon Taidetehdas are celebrating their round 10+10 anniversary together to the Brazilian rhythms of the spectacular ten-piece Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa.
