biography

Sähkökitarakvartetti ('The Electric Guitar Quartet') is a group formed in 2017 dedicated to exploring new music. Its members Juhani Grönroos, Lauri Hyvärinen, Jukka Kääriäinen and Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson have individually delved into the possibilities of the electric guitar extensively, including in the fields of jazz, rock, classical music, free improvisation, experimental music, and sound art. Sähkökitarakvartetti aims to blend these diverse elements together and search for new, yet undefined combinations and forms of expression.

The quartet has performed in Finland, Sweden, Iceland, and Lithuania, premiering a total of 26 works composed by artists such as Kalle Kalima, Pauli Lyytinen, Tytti Arola, Clara De Asís, Sami Klemola, Edigija Medekšaitė and Lauri Supponen.
