Biography

Guitarist Selim Rantapuro's third album continues the musical path established by his earlier releases Shades of Blue (2022) and Unknown Dimensions (2024). This time, the music is presented in a trio format featuring guitarist Selim Rantapuro, organist Antti Utriainen, and drummer Aapo Watanen.

The idea for the project emerged after a jam session, when drummer Watanen suggested forming an organ trio. Before long, the group began rehearsing regularly, and Selim started to believe in the potential of the ensemble. At first, they played standards and some of their earlier material, but Selim soon began composing new pieces to craft a setlist ready for live performances.

The music pays tribute to artists such as Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, and George Benson—key figures in the groovy, blues-infused hard bop and soul jazz tradition. Each track on the album aims to capture the vibrant, swinging atmosphere of 1960s jazz. Most of the compositions are Selim's, with one piece contributed by organist Antti Utriainen. Altogether, the album stands as a homage to the rich tradition of the guitar–organ–drums trio in jazz.

Beyond the music itself, Selim was responsible for the artistic direction of the album. The recording sessions took place at organist Antti Utriainen's rehearsal space, using Selim's own recording equipment. He handled the entire technical production—recording, mixing, and mastering—which has been an important and rewarding learning experience. Producing the album both artistically and technically has deepened Selim's understanding of the creative process as a whole.
