Biography

Musician Masa Orpana plays up to nine instruments on the album Together.

Saxophonist Masa Orpana's album Together, compiled in honor of his 50th birthday, is a cross-section of his musical versatility. All compositions on the album are Orpana's own work, including one of his song lyrics Keväällä, performed by Kielo Kärkkäinen.

Orpana's music reflects his extensive experience in the field of rhythm music: his compositions range from jazz to Finnish tones and even include roots-based instrumental music with shades of blues and gospel. On the album, Orpana plays all the instruments he masters: soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, bass clarinet, clarinet, flute, and guitar. He also plays piano on one track.

Joining Masa on the album are vocalists Kielo Kärkkäinen and Anne Berg, drummers Juppo Paavola and Mikko Järvinen, percussionists Janne Tuomi and Ismaila Sané, bassists Ville Rauhala and Ville Vallila, pianists Saku Järvinen and Sami Sippola, guitarist Jukka-Pekka Berg, trumpeter Jykä Ahola, and saxophonists Aino Heikkonen and Tuomas Heinonen.
