Biography

Soundscope is an album by Reija Lang Trio, released on 7th April 2010 by Hub Productions. 

Reija Lang’s multitoned and beautiful vocals, Petri Krzywack’s talented guitar handling and Mikko-Ville Luolajan-Mikkola’s rhythmic bass riffs and masterful violin play conjure an interesting texture. Engineer Markku Veijonsuo’s work in creating the clear, rich and extensive soundscape has been indispensable.

Soundscope naturally brings together Luolajan-Mikkola’s compositions and Lang’s lyrics and the world’s famous jazz composers’ pieces, rarely heard in song versions. The album features pieces from Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespiel, Cole Porter, Dori Caymmi and Ralph Towner. In addition the album presents a special arrangement of legendary jazz bassist Ron McClure’s “Pink Cloud”, with Lang’s lyrics it tells in a symbolic way about mustangs galloping on the prairie and jumping into heaven.

“I had been thinking of making a trio album for a long time. Mikko-Ville, Petri and I have been playing together for a long time in different occasions and therefore we had a good working space. It let our expression to come out and be filtered through our musical visions and different backgrounds. Maybe there can be heard the edges of our personalities and then again the clang refined by those edges”, states Reija Lang.
