Biography

Charismatic singer-songwriter and versatile artist Aili Julia released her debut album Pixel Snow in April 2023.

Aili Julia has been described as a "Renaissance-style art multitasker," being not only a singer-songwriter but also a visual artist, horse whisperer, and art vendor. Her English-language music draws influences from blues, jazz, and Patti Smith-inspired rock. At its core is Aili Julia's rock charisma and soulful voice that delves beneath the skin, accompanied by skilled musicianship and solos.

Aili Julia is a singer-songwriter with a band composed of jazz musicians—a setup reminiscent of Joni Mitchell's late 70s output. Her longtime musical colleague and producer of Pixel Snow, bassist Mikael Saastamoinen, brought together professionals from various Finnish jazz bands for the album. Alongside Aili Julia and Saastamoinen, the album features Samuli Rautiainen (piano), Héctor Lepe (guitar), Casimir Ekman (tenor saxophone and flute), and Arttu Huopainen (drums).

Aili Julia mentions that visual art and music often go hand in hand in her creative work. The album's cover art is a painting by the artist, featuring two horse heads as predominant elements. The artist emphasizes her close relationship with nature and animals, especially horses.

The album's title track and music video celebrate hope and courage to let go. Directed by Ninni Kola, the Pixel Snow video tells the story of awakening from a dreamlike state using surrealistic imagery.

Aili Julia has been writing her own songs and music for about fifteen years—since she bought her first guitar with confirmation gift money. The artist, who spent her childhood in Poland, has performed not only in Finland but also in countries like Germany and Austria, and has frequently busked in European cities.
