Biography

In a session recorded at the Zentrifuge studio in Berlin, Tatu Rönkkö and Kalle Kalima have created a unique hypnotic world of melodies. Their new duo Lampen released their debut album collected from this session.

The debut album by Tatu Rönkkö and Kalle Kalima's Lampen duo opens with its title track, a road movie-type riff that progresses calmly in open terrain. Green and Gray, previously released on Kalima’s Pentasonic album, gets a fresh interpretation here as the second track. Dosen is a pulsating soundscape that exudes tones of German krautrock. Kerzen is a captivating journey into the soul landscape of candles. Stempel reflects the unique atmosphere that prevailed during the sessions at the Zentrifuge studio in Berlin, a former cinema and Jehovah’s Witness' hall.

Drummer Rönkkö and guitarist Kalima played together for the first time in the mountains of Southern Tyrol, at the Alto Adige festival, which had coupled them on a ‘blind date’ gig with singer Andreas Schaerer. Both had left Finland to live abroad at different times, and it was a natural meeting place for free improvisation. Later Rönkkö and Kalima played some gigs in Berlin and Hamburg as a duo. Their joint musical direction was condensed into free and spontaneous collective compositions.
