Biography
On Meow Piglet's debut album Deeper, listeners will hear intimate stories of vulnerability, taking risks, and questioning things. The songs also explore the world of dreams and delve into the unconscious levels of the mind.
Founded in 2018, Meow Piglet is an experimental and electronic pop duo consisting of keyboardist and vocalist Aurora Hentunen and multi-instrumentalist Branislav Vlaisavljevic.
Many of the songs on the duo's debut album were largely born during the pandemic, reflecting the isolation and major changes associated with the time. The quiet and caution towards the future also brought an opportunity to focus on internal thoughts and emotions rather than just external events or busyness. The narrator in the songs often contemplates things silently but may not yet be able or willing to voice them out loud.
The lyrics also touch upon themes of moving forward and motion. Is there a compelling need to move forward arising from the stagnation caused by the pandemic, or is there a fear of facing oneself? Is there also anxiety about the future and a certain struggle against fate? True to its name, the album aims to delve beneath the surface - both into ourselves and our fears.
The album doesn't shy away from overly romanticized love songs either. Tracks like "Hey You" and "Sunset" describe infatuation and the associated dreaming, while "By the Water" speaks of strong trust. In the song "AMS," there's uncertainty about whether a heartbreak is caused by the city or by a person. Despite the melancholic tone of many of the songs' stories, the band wants their music to be relaxed and danceable.
