Biography

Aaron Koskelainen Stampede is a band founded in 2022 that primarily plays music composed by bassist Aaron Koskelainen.

The band draws heavily from improvisation and the tradition of free jazz, approaching music with an open-minded attitude. The intense sound of two tenor saxophones creates a powerful and unique whole when combined with drums and bass. Each of the compositions have their own feel and story to tell as well as the larger theme that is the album as a whole, describing the passage of time both in everyday life but also in a larger perspective. With that being said the album also seeks not to take itself too seriously and have fun.

One of the biggest driving factors on the album apart from the compositions was to get each of the musicians own sounds to be heard on the record and hearing them blend together as a unique sound. From the buoyant and fluffier sound of Olavi's sax to the focused and aerial sound of Risto's and how well they complement each other, and as they soar Vilho and Aaron drive the band forward.
