The first printed Jazzrytmit issue came out on 10 May 1994 and was available at the Jazzjamboree event organised by the Finnish Jazz Federation at the Old Student House in Helsinki. The founder, Osku Rajala, has been the producer and editor-in-chief from the start. In the initial years based in Kuopio, and from 2002 onwards in Pieksämäki, today Jazzrytmit is published by the Jazzaimaa ry association. Contributors include a variety of individuals and bodies; journalists, musicians, music media, record labels, music academies, concert and festival organisers, jazz music associations, clubs etc. – without forgetting a large number of jazz enthusiasts.
The aim of the magazine has always been to promote the knowledge and cultural status of jazz music and related genres, and to provide a channel for discussion and encounter – both nationally and internationally. Over the years, Jazzrytmit has published almost 10 000 items from articles to reviews and event calendars. The online magazine has approximately 2 500 visitors per day. Since November 2008 the online edition has been visited by 3,77 million readers in total.
