Jazz Finland also hosts the General Assembly of Europe Jazz Network, the European umbrella organization for e.g. national jazz federations, agentries and other management companies, promotors, concert houses, clubs and festivals. The over a hundred GA participants represent the core of European jazz industry and provide a unique possibility to open doors for Finnish talent to go international. As a part of the festival programme, also young Nordic musicianship is being presented in a form of the Young Nordic Jazz Comets showcase. YNJC features upcoming jazz bands from all the Nordic countries.
Jazz Finland festival is the biggest showcase event ever organized to promote Finnish jazz. Jazz Finland concept itself is a large-scale project to cover all aspects of professional jazz music by bringing the people together and developing the Finnish jazz industry as a strong and united front.
The supportive and co-operative partners to the Finnish Jazz Federation in the Jazz Finland project include Music Finland, The Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish EJN member organizations and Sibelius Academy's jazz department in the Aalto University.
The concert programme starts on Thursday the 18th when the YNJC showcase takes place at Koko Jazz Club, which is definitely one of the best clubs in Helsinki for live jazz. On Friday the venue is the prestigious Music Center, where the festival takes over two halls, Camerata and the Black Box. The Music Center is also the home of the Sibelius Academy's jazz department, which hosts the Friday night's event. The last night of the weekend presents yet another kind of stage, when the festival moves to Korjaamo Culture Factory on Saturday. The large and atmospheric building used to be a tram garage, and today Korjaamo Culture Factory is one of the largest arts centres in the Nordic countries.
The programme is released in April.
