The Tampere-based trio got their punny name on a 2015 concert trip in New York, when saxophonist Sami Sippola, bassist Ville Rauhala and drummer Janne Tuomi came across a worn-out sign of Brooklyn-style Italian sandwiches. The improvising threesome’s debut album came out a year after that, and it winged the band touring in Bulgaria, Germany and Russia. Last year the Hot Heros released their fourth album Vodjanoi, together with pianist Iro Haarla.
The band's style is inspired by folk music themes and improvisation. Their compositions are lyrical and they evolve from European jazz tradition. The band's second album Folkjazz From Finland was nominated for the Jazz-Emma award in 2018.
