The program is the joint work of the two artistic directors, Jaska Lukkarinen, who will take a back seat in Porvoo Jazz Festival's activities in the fall, and the new artistic director, Max Zenger.
The core of the events is Porvoo Jazz Festival's own home base, the atmospheric cultural space Vanha 123. Vanha 123's program features interesting and current acts: Selma Savolainen Horror Vacui, Jukkis Uotila Plays Finnish Jazz Classics, Nordic collaboration project Schlosser / Almqvist / Welin / Lukkarinen Free Swing and Kari Ikonen & Karikko 50/25 celebration concert.
The opening concert of the festival, the student concert Nuoret Kyvyt realized in cooperation with Porvoo Region Music Institute, will be held in the pop-up space 123 Kellari on the lower floor of Vanha 123. In its gritty atmosphere, you can also enjoy the rhythms of the next night's concerts, Jimi Tenor Band on Friday and Maja Mannila Trio on Saturday.
History will be made at Kellari on Saturday night, because the festival will try something completely new, as it hosts likely the first ever Jazz rave! In the rave built around John Coltrane and especially the album A Love Supreme, the audience is drawn into a collective, almost hypnotic listening experience.
The festival ends spectacularly with a concert by Valtteri Laurell Nonet in Porvoo Art Factory's Tehdassali, realized in cooperation with Porvoo Cultural Services. The solo concerts of the festival, by guitarist Mikko Iivanainen and bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs respectively, can be enjoyed alongside the works of sculptor Felipe de Ávila Franco at Porvoo Art Hall.
Last year's Jazz Tour received a laudatory reception, and will continue this year with surprise performers in the center of Porvoo. The route of the walking tour will be kept as a surprise for those participating in the event.
Porvoo Jazz Festival is a festival organized with great heart every autumn since 2013. The event offers quality performances and an intimate festival atmosphere with a bohemian touch. Above all, the festival wants the audience and performers to have a comfortable and atmospheric experience. Interactivity is also important in the event, and the festival wants to bring the most current and carefully selected jazz within touching distance.
