Finnish Jazz Federation organizes a week-long Jazz Day campaign, in which Jazz City Turku also participates prominently.
Jazz City Turku celebrates Jazz Day week with concerts and jazz coffee on the eve of May Day accompanied by live music.
During the campaign week, on April 29th at Rica Bar's Monday Jazz Happening, Arto Ikävalko Trio will celebrate the release of their debut album Changing Priors.
The actual Jazz Day will be celebrated on the eve of May Day, April 30th, at the Jazz Office in Forum Kortteli with doughnut coffee, raffles, and surprises from 12 pm to 4 pm. Pianist Tigo Nguyen will provide live music. After the celebration, the festivities continue at Turku Market Square, where the Jazz Day special lineup led by Turku Jazz Festival's featured artist Ville Vannemaa will offer a taste of composer legend Henry Mancini's production starting at 5 pm. Balloons will also be distributed!
On May Day, May 1st, the Turku Jazz Orchestra joins forces with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra at the Turku Concert Hall at 3 pm. The concert celebrates composer master Henry Mancini's 100th anniversary with his most famous, enjoyable, and touching film compositions in fresh versions conducted by Ville Vannemaa, interpreted by the city's brilliant big band and symphony orchestra.
