In the first half of the concert, the solo cellist of the Radio Symphony Orchestra, Eeva Rysä and the percussionist Kazutaka Morita will perform together. Rysä has commissioned and premiered a lot of new Finnish music and plays solo works composed for her by Tiina Myllärinen and Minna Leinonen. Together with Morita, they perform the rarely heard Grand Union duo by Finnish-American composer Charles Wuorinen.
In the latter half, a sextet led by visiting professor of jazz music at the Sibelius Academy, drummer and composer Dana Hall will perform. The ensemble is formed by Hall, Sibelius Academy's jazz students and Hietsu is Happening's own Antti Lötjönen and Mikko Innanen. The group's repertoire consists of compositions by such great stylists of the African-American musical tradition as Billy Strayhorn, Yusef Lateef, Julius Hemphill, Anthony Braxton and Geri Allen.
