Fans of domestic progressive rock and prog-jazz fusion are in for a treat in mid-September, as three leading Finnish progressive music ensembles will perform across five different locations over five days (in varying combinations). According to Helsingin Sanomat, 5th Season, which released the "domestic prog album of the year," is teaming up with the Mortality ensemble, composed of top names in Finnish jazz, and the progressive rock band Tatu & Tutkimusmatkailijat.
5th Season's debut album, released in spring 2023, has received excellent reviews across Europe and has been featured multiple times in the leading publication, PROG Magazine. The band members include drummer Jani Auvinen (Uniklubi), keyboard wizard Arto Piispanen (known for work with Dave Lindholm and many others), bassist and songwriter Mikko Löytty (Q.Stone), and guitarist-composer Tapio Ylinen (PULSE).

Ylinen’s music is also performed by the Mortality collective, which will celebrate the release of its second album with concerts in Espoo and Tampere. The supergroup’s debut album was one of the significant jazz events of 2019-2020, gaining considerable media attention, performing on the main stage of the Tampere Jazz Happening, and receiving a nomination for Best Jazz Album at the Emma Awards in spring 2021. Ylinen was personally awarded YLE’s Varjo-Yrjö prize. The highly anticipated second album will be released on September 6, 2024, and its launch will be celebrated with concerts in Espoo and Tampere.

The progressive orchestra Tatu & Tutkimusmatkailijat, led by bass maestro Tatu Back (known for his work with Erja Lyytinen), will join the lineup in Jyväskylä and Lapinlahti. The band, which conducts its explorations through instrumental music, blends elements of progressive and psychedelic rock with roots and ethnic music. The band’s musical journeys naturally incorporate the stylistic influences of its key figures: symphonic jazz-rock reminiscent of Pekka Pohjola, blues-based prog jamming in the style of The Allman Brothers and Kingston Wall, and the world music currents of Piirpauke.
The band released its debut album, Matka kaikkine vaiheineen, at the end of 2020 (Eclipse Music), and its second studio album, Vasta alkusoittoa, was released in January 2024 (Eclipse Music).
