The celebrated pianist Joonas Haavisto’s trio to tour Japan this September

Joonas Haavisto Trio has been booked by the acclaimed Tokyo Jazz Festival whose programme this year includes such names as Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Benny Golson and Christian McBride. The trio will perform on 6 September at the legendary The Plaza, which has hosted several ECM artists’ concerts in earlier years.


We Jazz 2013 to be documented by crowd-funding

The Helsinki-based jazz production organisation We Jazz is planning on releasing an exclusive documentary on the last December’s inaugural We Jazz festival. In actuality the venture is still uncertain, but We Jazz is confident that there are enough people who are – to borrow the organisation’s own slogan – “into jazz” to enable the project.



Finnish jazzers award Koko Jazz Club

Koko Jazz Club was awarded with the JAMU prize 2014 by Jazzmuusikot ry (Finnish Jazz Musicians association). The prize is granted to any person or body in recognition of their contribution to the status of jazz music in Finland.


MARKUS PESONEN’S ”WATER” COMBINES SOUND AND IMAGE

Markus Pesonen (b. 1984) is a Berlin-based Finnish composer, musician, sound artist and photographer. Pesonen employs an interdisciplinary approach to making art, combining art forms ranging from performing arts to music and visual arts. His new exhibition, "Water", is an audio-visual experience combining image with live music. Café Bar No 9 hosts the exhibition that opened on 9 June and closes on 6 July.



Sakari Kukko's Helle spreads the heat

Sakari Kukko's new group, Helle ("Heat"), plays music that is in keeping with their name. The woodwind player-pianist-composer's band sticks to West-African music tradition but the repertoire includes also Finnish household composer's pieces in afrobeat arrangements.


UMO and Club For Five to continue their collaboration

UMO Jazz Orchestra and Club For Five will step into the shiny, swinging shoes of American big band legend Glenn Miller and vocal group The Modernaires. “Glenn Miller 110%” collaborative mini tour will bring the two pioneering Finnish groups together to Hämeenlinna, Järvenpää, Espoo and Kotka in September.


Tonight At Noon live review in Sussex Jazz Magazine

The latest issue of Sussex Jazz Magazine features a review of Tonight At Noon's live show on 5 May at The Brunswick in Hove, Britain. At the Brunswick, the vigorous Finnish combo, lead by drummer André Sumelius's, was joined by saxophonist Tony Kofi.
