Jazz Finland Live

Orquesta Bossa is a unique combination of two elements: A notable jazz quintet and a celebrated string quartet, who have found just the perfect sound and balance to back up and complete each other.

The collective plays trumpeter Eskola's original compositions, which have been enriched by drummer/producer Teppo Mäkynen, who seems to have a golden touch when it comes to jazz that is both, ambitious and yet hugely popular especially in the dancefloor jazz scene. The nine-piece band released their debut album in Japan in May 2013, with the European release date set in September.

Jukka Eskola (b. 1978) is one of the most talented and well-known musicians of his generation in Finland. His name is affiliated with such groups and artists as The Five Corners Quintet and Jimi Tenor, and he leads his own Jukka Eskola Quintet. Proton String Quartet was founded in 2005 and they have worked with e.g. accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen and pianist/composer Sid Hille.

The Finnish Jazz Federation (FJF) organizes five domestic tours in fall 2013. The tours are supported by the Ministry of Education and The Finnish Music Foundation MES.

For six weeks from August 16th on, every Friday at 6pm, the weekend is being officially declared "on" by an evening call from Paasitorni tower in Hakaniemi.

Both saxophonists, Linda Fredriksson and Sampo Kasurinen, study in Sibelius Academy. The jazzy tunes in the weekend-kick-off are composed by Fredriksson.

Besides near the tower and on the Paasitorni patio, the music will be audible on Radio Helsinki.

Sibelius Academy Folk Music and Jazz Departments celebrate their 30th anniversary in the Helsinki Music Centre halls and lower foyer. The concerts feature up to 30 Finnish top ensembles that play jazz, folk music, and their unique combinations of the two.

Brazilian saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher Felipe Salles performs with Jarno Lappalainen's Samba à Venda! orchestra. Concert's repertoire consists of Brazilian jazz tunes, especially the 60's samba jazz compositions, arranged for this ensemble.
