Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson Lúna is guitarist Sigurdur Rögnvaldsson's latest quartet, which formed around Rögnvaldsson's solo album Lúna. Rögnvaldsson picked some of his all time favourite musicians to join him for this album: pianist Tuomas A. Turunen, bassist Jori Huhtala and drummer Tatu Rönkkö.
The music was written during the covid period and reflects a whole range of emotions Sigurdur, as most people, went through during that time. The title Lúna reflects on the isolation and anguish the composer felt during the end of this period. The music itself is though far from being melancholic. It is rather uplifting, groovy and melodic. The sound has a slight resemblance to the 70’s sound of jazz rock with Tuomas using mainly the Fender Rhodes and analog synthesisers, with Tatu’s aggressive drumming, Jori’s electric bass filling around the chord structure and with plenty of wild improvisations.
