Funky Finns was founded in the fall of 2019 when the core group of Mikko Pettinen's Happy People band joined forces with Antti Kleemola.

Funky Finns' music blends soul, funk, pop, Afro, and jazz, and the band features multiple lead vocalists. Essential to their sound is also a lush horn section and backing vocals. Funky Finns describe their music as "humane soul" because the lyrics of their songs tackle important topics such as anti-racism, equality, diversity, mental well-being of young people, and the power of unity.

Their debut album United Souls was released in May 2023.
