DEFEKT was an experiment that spawned from a very creative period of the band members’ lives. In 2008 they were all studying music in Gothenburg, Sweden. Pauli and Sigurdur had already played together in the group Laser and made the album “…and he woke up in Petroskoi”. Pauli and Joonas knew each other from previous projects and had also made a record together, Kauhukakara’s debut “Taistelu pahoja kelloja vastaan”, released as the first album in the Eclipse Music catalogue.
After spending some time composing material, rehearsing and defining the band’s musical concept the band took a brave move and went straight into the studio to record the new tracks. The material for the album was recorded at the famous Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki in February 2008. The members of the band were, however, also busy with other projects and the album was put on hold.
The band regrouped later that year and managed to book their first tour which took them from Sweden to Finland and Estonia in February 2009. They regrouped again the following autumn for a couple of shows in Norway.
Their debut album entitled Pete’s Game Machine was eventually released in the autumn of 2010 and supported by 14-date tour in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland. Since the release tour the band played various shows in Norway, Sweden and Finland during 2011.
In the autumn of 2011 DEFEKT was selected to play at the European Jazz Nights Showcase Festival at the Jazzahead Conference in Bremen, Germany. The showcase in April of 2012 foreshadows and long overdue second album for which recordings have already taken place.
